A New Start and More Quilt!

I've made a new start:

"Kindred Spirits"
by
Primitive Needle

I'm using the recommended fibers and linen, though I may change the cat's eyes as they call for Belle Soie, but are the only use of that color in the piece. Do I really need to buy a whole skein of BS for 4 stitches? It's a yellow-green not suited to a monochrome piece, either. I am having SO much fun stitching the border--it's all I want to do! I wonder if I'll still love it so when I have to "re-do" it by filling in the orange, lol.

Squee! I was so thrilled when I "turned" this tabletop quilt--I think it looks SO good and I have to hunt to find the imperfections. You can see in the foreground where I need to blind-stitch the opening closed. I have a document (or is it a link?) saved to show how, but I use this stitch so infrequently that I always have to refer back to the tutorial when it's called for.

I'm pretty nervous about doing the quilting, however. The open-toe darning foot I ordered arrived in the mail yesterday, but the instructions are quite sparse. I'm entirely unsure about how to attach it to the machine. Also, I should probably test it on a scrap first, but I don' wanna! :P I am so excited to have this done. I also feel anxious that I'll spoil the perfection I'm so admiring. lol!

This potato salad was so good. It was included in the method for assembling a packed lunchbox shown here. I substituted peas for corn, however.

Recently I tried a new Menu item on our visit to Mitsuwa. This is Mapo Tofu "soup" with fried rice. The flavor was okay, but I found it to be over-starchy with the thick corn-thickened soup. The best part was the shredded daikon topped with mayo and seaweed salad. Yum! (seriously) The cup contains savory broth.

Hope everyone's enjoying great weather and,

See you soon~
Berit

Love your Kindred Spirits WIP, nice progress! Your quilt is looking good so far, good luck with the actual quilting part. I've never attempted more than straight(ish) lines myself, since I don't have a darning foot, so I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

Berit, I love your start on Kindred Spirits - it's a design I keep reminding myself to stitch!

Your tabletop quilt top lovely. Good luck with the quilting part.

Now, I have to tell you, I looked at the bento box video and I just started laughing! That dog sitting up on the counter, or close to it! OMG, I kept wondering when it was going to start attacking the food! Now, can you imagine the housewife making bento box lunches for her dear ones everyday? That was a lot of work, but it looked yummy!

I love your new project but I'll feel like a bum if you finish before I do! I've had this one sitting around half-finished forever!

Fabulous quilt! Clever thing. Love your new wip. The fabric is lovely. I would just sub the thread and no way pay for a skein for just 4 stitches. x

Squeeee! Berit your little quilt is so pretty. I know what you mean about not wanting to practice the quilting first BUT please make a test sandwich and practice a bit. You will be surprised how much difference that can make. I admire your courage in jumping right in to the free motion quilting - my first few were hand quilted and then straight lines on the machine with a walking foot.

Love the Kindred Spirits WIP, of course you knew I would. I think I will pass on the soup though. I haven't met a Tofu yet that I like. ;o)

I love Kindred Spirits, great piece. I wouldn't buy any skein of thread for just 4 stitches. You must have a similar color, or color you like that you have in your stash.

Definitely do a little free motion practice before starting on the quilt. I can't wait to see the finished quilt -- it's a great first quilt! And Kindred Spirits i looking great too.

Lovely new WIPs. Love the fabric you're using.

Beautiful quilt.

The soup looks interesting - can you tweak the recipe to cut back on the cornstarch effect? (When Niek and I got together, he actually went thru my cupboards searching for cornstarch - I "passed" when he didn't find any. Apparently he has horrible memories of too much cornstarch used in thickening recipes, LOL.)

Your tabletop quilt knocks me over. OMG, that is SO stunning!

And of course I love your PN start. :D

A wonderful new start, Berit! I wouldn't buy a whole skein for four stitches...who would ever know?

Wow ~ your quilt is awesome. Well done! I too, have to look up stitches not used in a while. You never know when you might forget something and frogs just suck!

I love your new start. You've made great progres. I know though that I sure wouldn't be buying that BS silk for the sake of 4 stitches.

Your quilt is gorgeous! Give yourself a pat on the back.
